Good evening to all the good folks who read and post to this great board. The darling Wife and I will be leaving a week from tonight on the Southwest Chief from Fullerton CA to the city with broad shoulders to watch the da bums from the northside beat up on the street car Dodgers. Since both my PSU ( Primary Spousal Unit ) and I have made a few long distance train trips before we kind of know what to expect. This will be the first time we will be traveling in a bedroom, we have room E out to the Windy City and room D returning to SoCal. We are hoping that Mr Norman or others who are familiar with the Northside of Chitown could recomend a German restaurant that serves Eisben . That would be a hamhock. Also looking for tips on taking pics from a moving train. The camera I will be using is a Nikon coolpix 5.

I am sure Gil will have a restaurant for you and his dining taste is impecable. As far as pictures, I often forget to put that lens right up against the window to avoid reflection. Also, I always try to go to the rear of the train to get a few shots, especially bridges. Easy to do now that the sleepers are usually at the rear. Have a great trip, I really enjoyed Chicago on our recent trip.

Regrettably, the two German restaurants that come to mind have closed. First, is Zum Deutschen Eck which was "sort of" near "freindly confines'; the other of course is the world reknowned Berghoff.
But restaurants are like fashion; everything changes yet nothing xhanges.
Regarding the Cubs, what kind of "curse" will be wrought this year?

I remember when the Dodgers(Brooklyn) were called da bums. Oh my....that's history. Enjoy the SW Chief trip.

Mr. Rich, a restaurant named 17 West has opened in the Berghoff premises. They even have "Berghoff tradition' menu selections - including the nutmeg flavored creamed spinach.
But the Berghoff 'as I knew it"? it aint.

Sounds like a great reason for the trip, Mr. Cubzo! Lately, I have taken to wearing my Cubs cap while on business in Los Angeles, and strangers shout encouragement at me from cars on Hollywood Blvd. It is amazing how far the Cubs "fan base" reaches. But wasn't the old name the "trolley" Dodgers, instead of the street car Dodgers as you say? Thanks to all for your replies, 20th Century your correct it was the Dodgers but some years back the Cubs were called the Boys of Zimmer so since the to me they were the Bums from the Northside. Railroad Bob your correct as well it was the trolley Dodgers. Mr Norman the folks at chow.com agree with you on Berghoff but gave me a few alternatives. As I posted earlier we will be leaving this Friday evening from Fullerton and will be celebrating our trip from the Spaghetti factory and walking to the depot from there. Hopefully the recent rains and floods wont impact our journey but after all it is an adventure isn't it?
