With all the recent talk of 58/59 finally getting a new Diner/Lounge shortly, my memory took me back to 1994, when the City was fist upgraded to Superliner service. From what I remember, the train didn't have a Sightseer Lounge for the first year or maybe two. It ran with a combined Diner/Lounge, presumably similar to what was offered on the Crescent out of NOL at the time, where the "Lounge" service was simply just baskets full of snacks and cold drinks placed out on one of the tables. Can anyone please confirm? Also, I seem to remember the Amtrak timetables stating as such: "Superliner Dining/Lounge car. Complete meals; sandwiches, snacks, and beverages."

This information probably isn't too helpful for your question, but I just dug through my old Amtrak Travel Planners to see what I could find. I have every year---except 1994! For 1993, it shows the train with the Heritage coaches, a dome coach, heritage sleepers, a Horizon food service car, and a cafe car. For 1995, it doesn't list the specific equipment like it did in 1993, but in the description of the train it does say that it has Superliners and a Sightseer Lounge car, but there is no mention of a dining car.

Sorry I couldn't help more.....it figures I have every year except the one that's needed! [Smile]
