On Tues. afternoon, 10/7, while driving to Salt Lake City w/b on I-80, I saw what looked like a UP "passenger train" with one engine heading up 6-8 cars in UP livery. This was where the tracks are just north of the interstate around the Nebraska/Wyoming border.

Some of the cars looked to be sleepers/observation cars/business cars. Was this possibly a business train move heading to Cheyenne, Wyoming? Nice sight, anyway, on a beautiful day. Sorry I couldn't get any pictures.
For a moment, I thought I had gone back in time and was looking at the "City of Whatever" back in the 60's.

UP has a suberb set of business cars including a dome, sleepers and observation/office cars that we saw last year. So I am sure that is what you saw.

Our paths must have crossed at some point OcalaMike, as we have been making a circuit that included I-80 since early Sept. Were fortunate to see UP's steam engine, Challenger 3985, in full glory along I-80 on its way to North Platte, NE for annual Rail Days there. It only had its support cars but was still quite a sight.

It stopped at the small town of Potter, NE for the entire school (very small) to go track side as it posed. This was preceeded by a van labeled 'UP Steam Program' going to the school about an hour before, presumably for a show and tell. Great PR on the part of the UP.

The train left Las Vegas a little while ago. Not sure who's on it or why it's running.
