I'm curious whether the light rail between the Seattle airport and downtown is in service yet? If so, about how long does it take to travel from downtown to the airport?

I'm working on a plan to use some Guest Reward Points in June and one of my possible itineraries would involve arriving in Seattle by train and then flying home.

Yes, it is in service. I don't know how long it takes though. I'm toying with several travel ideas, and for some dumb reason, I'm thinking about taking #14 up to Seattle, then flying home on Virgin America. If I did that, I would take the new light rail system. I do know for sure that it is in service, but for some reason I'm thinking that somebody told me that the light rail doesn't quite reach the airport (it stops a block or two short??). I seem to recall also that a shuttle bus is required from the light rail stop to get to the airport also. Someone here will know the answer.

It goes directly to the parking structure at the airport. Here's the link: http://www.soundtransit.org/x11204.xml

I won't be using it in May but friends will so we've researched it. I believe this has been discussed in a thread I started here.

My friends original plan was to take the morning Cascades to King Street and then transfer to the Soundtransit. It is apparently quite easy to do. They have now decided to spend two nights in Seattle before continuing home on JetBlue.

Link takes about 40 minutes from Westlake Station in downtown Seattle to SeaTac airport. It's not an express run from downtown to the airport. You'll get a tour of Rainier Valley on your journey, possibly with some great views of Mt. Rainier. It's about a 5 minute walk from the airport station to the check-in area. United Airlines, then Alaska Airlines are the airlines closest to the airport station. If you are planning to catch an early flight, note that the first train from downtown doesn't arrive at the airport until about 545am.

Thanks, again, Vincent for your input. It's good to have someone "on the ground" in Seattle.
