While this is akin to preaching to the choir, here's another reminder that Amtrak isn't the only transportations sytem subsidized by the government. http://news.yahoo.com/airlines-govt-loans-committee-says-192720711.html

All transportation is subsidized by our federal government. Highways get around $37 billion, airways get around $14 billion, waterways get around $6 billion, and Amtrak gets around $1 billion. All of this is over and above any taxes and fees collected by the traveling public.
