I was in Carpinteria to have my teeth cleaned today and scheduled it so I could be at "The Spot" just in time to see #14 whiz by. It had three locomotives all facing forward, the baggage car, three sleepers including the "George M. Pullman", a Parlour Car, diner, lounge and three coaches. Arrival into SBA, according to Julie, was 8 minutes late.

The cheeseburger with grilled onions and an order of fries with a side of ranch dressing was a nice reward for another "Look, Mom, no cavities!" appointment.

I've been in both a Deluxe Bedroom and an Economy Sleeper on the George M. Pullman sleeper. The first time I rode on it, it was a filthy Superliner I non-refurb with dirty brown carpet and orange formica. The next time I was on it, it had been beautifully refurbished with all new everything---it was very nicely done.

I'm starting to get itchy for a train trip. I might have to take #14 up to Seattle soon for a joy ride!

This may not be the place to post this, but I just got a notice from Amtak that I can convert my miles from the Continental One-Pass program to Amtrak guest rewards program. I'm assuming Frank thought up this benefit. Don't let him deny it; he'll just be his usual modest self.

Hey, Tom--

Me, modest? [Wink]

I think this program has been in place for quite awhile. I know I transferred some OnePass miles to GR a couple of years ago when I needed a few extra for a Bedroom. I believe you can go the other way, too.

When OnePass goes away at the end of this year I'm not sure if this will be a benefit offered by MileagePlus so anyone wanting to do this might do well to jump on it now.

You can also currently transfer miles back and forth between OnePass and MileagePlus online but it will be a moot point after December 31, 2011.

I just got my e-mail about this. I sounds as if they have a plan in the works to make it possible to do the same thing after the miles become MileagePlus. It might be a way to burn some of the 450,000 miles I have sitting there.

Frank in not so sunny and cool SBA -- soon to be wet.
