This is sort of an addendum to a post, by Mr. Norman, a while back:

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

So indicative of how Beethoven introduces his "Ode to Joy" in the Ninth Symphony.

Truly one of the most inspiring works within the repertory.

Nothing can compare with Beethoven's 9th. That is so powerful I do get a bit emotional every time I hear it.

But, for the railfan at Christmas I always recall the O. Winston Link famous sound recording of the N&W steam passenger train as it passes Rural Retreat, VA. What makes it special is the church playing Christmas carols in the backround. There are many links to that event on YouTube. Here is one from an NPR interview with the organist. On this one the bells are much clearer.

Merry Christmas to all!

That first You Tube post looks familiar -- I believe it was posted last year also. I like it!!

As a child in the '50s, my most memorable Christmas present was the Lionel "O" Gauge SF Super Chief, each unit wrapped separately under the tree. We already had a Pennsylvania steam engine, Milwaukee freight and Wabash Bluebird E8.

So for my musical contribution I submit the following. Not Christmas music, nor as highbrow as the above, but nonetheless an American Classic.

Merry Christmas everyone.

Thanks for the post, TwinStar. Yes, a true classic.
