The other day I went to the VIA Rail website to get a timetable for the Toronoto-Vancouver "Canadian" train. I also wanted to see if there was anything new in the Canadian sleeping car options.

http://www.viarail.ca/

After trying several times, I could not figure out how to get sleeping car information. I finally got it: 1) click "Explore Your Destination" 2) "Rockies and Pacific" 3) Toronto-Vancouver (The Canadian) 4) "Classes and Train Cars" 5) "Sleeper Plus". The information under "Sleeper Plus" was limited and sketchy.

Then I tried to get Eastbound and Westbound timetables for the Canadian. After step 3, above, I clicked on "Schedules", then "Display" & could not find the timetable. Then I tried to click on the yellow bar...I got the Westbound Schedule out of Toronto. What about Eastbound out of Vancouver? I finally found a "Reverse" button to click and got the Eastbound schedule.

I think there should be fields or icons, on their home page, for sleeping accomodations and timetables for their trains. I think Amtrak does a better job at this.

It seems like whenever a browser or website is updated, it's always going to be worse than what they had, before.

Sorry for being such a grouch. I need a double mocha, from Starbucks, to get me in a better mood [Smile]

A double scotch might be better.

Forget that, Mr. Palmland.

Try a couple of glasses of a Kistler, Durell Vineyard, 2012, Chardonnay; '12's are to be a 'very special' vintage from Napa Valley.

Starbucks? who needs that bilgewater. Last one of those I was in was maybe four years ago in Atlanta simply to buy a Times (I've since changed hotels there to one that has a Gift Shop that carries both The Times and Journal). The counter help (what do they call 'em; Baristas?) 'couldn't believe it' when I simply paid for my Times, and walked out without any of their 'delicacies'.

I've never tried Kistler or Durell. I will be on the lookout. Are they separate vineyards or one of the same? I see Kistler vineyards are near my home town of Sebastopol, here in Sonoma County.

I recently discovered a very good, inexpensive chardonnay by Duckhorn. Duckhorn wines are kind of expensive but they make an off-label or generic chardonnay under the "Decoy" brand. They have one for around $11 and it's excellent...even with a screw-on (non cork) stopper. I don't know, however, if Decoy wines are widely distributed.

Trust me, Richard, to have any Kistler is a 'treat':

How 'bout a railroad history video about Fallen Flags - hosted by Stan Kistler?

And throw in a retrospective of classic photographs by Richard Steinheimer, to follow that up?

Been a crazy (week) here too--
The Phishers and Cloners are all over my accounts; sigh.

Speaking of computers, Microsoft did send out a patch last night to XP users to address the latest security breaches.

But this Dell desktop that I have is now seven years old, cannot support the latest versions of Adobe or Java, and I just think is vulnerable to an attack. But just like Twin Star Jerry, I have used Lotus 123 through my entire professional life and, while I'm sure I could learn Excel (last Lotus was written for W7), it just seems like a waste of $500 or whatever to learn a new spreadsheet, which is the core of anything I do off-line, at this stage of life. However, there appears no choice.

Google Docs is another choice, free, but not offline. Backup copies kept at the NSA for free, too... maybe.

Open Office is also free and is for offline use.
