A new System Timetable dated September 9 is now available - for download.

The Welcome letter, signed by D.J. Stadtler EVP - Operations, mentions that it was all about cost, but that anyone was welcome to download the 19mb and print the 137 pages.

Somehow I doubt if there will be many takers.

I've always had one in ready reach along with a current almanac and road atlas. I guess that the advertising did not cover the production cost, and I'd dare say it was outdated as soon as the presses were rolling.

But then, how many were actually picking it up to see when a train was arriving or departing - let alone what a journey would cost.

Sic transit digitalis.

Mr. Norman -- I have used the printed timetable quite often, for many purposes -- to see what current train schedules are, to plan train trips, to use in my ra8lroad guides, to give information about AMTRAK to friends and family, etc., etc.

Just looked at the new on-line timetable. There are ZERO advertisements in it!!!!

I ordered the timetable at Amtrak's website. It will be interesting to see what, if anything, arrives. I'll bet the link just wasn't deleted and I'll get another copy of the last printed version - or nothing.

If they chose to continue printing yet impose a charge, wonder how much "the traffic would bear"?

Well, my Amtrak timetable did arrive. But, not surprisingly, it was the last printed version- for January 2016. Guess it's good to have another of what may be a collectors item.

Rationalizing a bit, it will be nice to print out just the various routes or corridors needed for a trip and help the traveling light effort.
