Some interesting tidbits in the 2019-3 issue of Passenger Train Journal.
Amtrak's 2020 budget proposal has a couple of suggestion.
1. Restore the international service between Detroit and Windsor, to provide a link between Chicago-Detroit-Windsor-Toronto.
2. Extend the Heartland Flyer to Newton, Kansas.
These are only suggestions but I have to think the Heartland Flyer expansion is overdue.
Also, a Montreal entrepreneur wants to establish an overnight train from Montreal to New York. It would use old but refurbished passenger train cars. Whatever happened to the idea of a new "Vermonter" train to Montreal?
If they want to go first class, why not a "Caledonian Sleeper"-like overnight train round trip from NY to Montreal?
Also, from PTJ, VIA plans to restore the "Canadian", next spring, to a 3X/week service.

The time is nigh for an overnight train between Montreal and New York City, says François Rebello.
The Montreal entrepreneur and former Coalition Avenir Québec MNA says he has lined up $10 million in private-sector funding necessary to launch the service, allowing passengers to make the trip in the comfort of sleeper cars while saving money on hotel stays.
The largest remaining hurdle is obtaining the approval of Canadian Pacific, which owns a large stretch of the rail lines and runs freight service on the tracks.
I wish them well; this voice who simply thought Brightline was a ploy to sell the FEC to the State, will pass on any "oddsmaking" regarding such.
