Amtrak claims that 80% of its passengers have positive impressions of flexible dining. However, the following might suggest otherwise:

A quote from the article:

"Your attendants seemed actually embarrassed [sic] to serve this stuff."

Richard ("Western Star" elsewhere?), I think the noted survey results simply reflect that Millennials when traveling just want to be fed.

Yes, but I think they want a palatable and acceptable meal like any of the older folk.

You're correct, Mr. Norman. I am "Western Star" on that other forum. I went over there in order to peruse a variety of railroad and train subjects. Seems to be a lot of activity and posts over there. However, I haven't abandoned this forum.

But Richard, "none of 'em "knew it when".

Lest we forget, "early Amtrak" (Circus Train Days, Pioneer Days, whatever) still had pretty good chow. It wasn't until about '84, that they started to "experiment".

The Millenials never knew it "back then"; we did.

I just heard from a friend who rode the Empire Builder. Not only are they serving meals in the dining car (seating at every-other table)... they are allowing sleeping car passengers to "hang out" in the dining car between meals. This has been done with the Viewliner II diners, but shocked to hear this is happening on the Western LD trains. Maybe they should be cleaning between meal settings and not using it as a sleeper lounge!

maybe they think by allowing sleeper passengers to hang out in the diner, they wont hang out in the lounge as much and thus allowing more room for everyone on the train to social distance?
