What are the Amtrak requirements for hauling private varnish? What specs must be met? Will they "spot" a car at an intermediary station? Will they place the car behind the roadrailers/express cars at end of train? Mileage charges?

Ill take a crack at the second half of Mr. Morris' inquiry.

Insomuch as the Amtrak Boxcars (whoops, express) do not have HEP lines and by FRA directive nothing other than Roadrailers may be coupled behind same, any "PV" would have to go immediately behind the passenger cars.

I've seen the Silver Lariet right behind the engines on my last year's trip through the Rockies (via Denver). I've also seen it at the end of the coaches on another journey (don't remember which one).

I've read that Amtrak charges $1.80 per mile for transport, plus switching fees. I believe I read this on the private varnish website.
