Well, I'm now just seven days away from jetting across the pond to take the SWC from CHI-LAX. I just wanted to check that there have been no recent problems with bridges, trackwork, landslides, diversions, forest fires etc - hey, don't laugh, the week before I took the CZ last year a bridge collapsed (I think somewhere in Iowa/Nebraska?) and the poor souls had to be bussed for 14 hours! Don't fancy that!

Haven't heard of any troubles for the Chief. Although I have noticed recent late arivals and departures from Fullerton, California (my nearest station). But the worst it's been was about an hour and a half late-not bad by Amtrak standards

Hope you have a great trip on America's fastest intercity train.

BNSF had a few washouts in AZ a few weeks ago, which delayed some Chiefs, one severely, but things are rolling normally again, so don't anticipate any problems, and have a great trip!
