Leaving Sunday from Boston on my first long trip via the Lake Shore Limited, Southwest Chief, and then the Pacific Surfliner to San Diego. Have a standard room. Thanks to all who contribute to this forum, think I have a good idea of what to expect. Any last minute tip someone has would be appreciated and would like to know if anyone has any knowledge of how "on time" these trains have been running recently. Thanks!

I'm envious.

You can check on time performance at http://www.amtrak.com ... click on "arrival ..." whatever, on the right side of your screen. You can enter about a week of recent dates. On the whole, though, I wouldn't worry too much about it. You have plenty of time in Chicago to make the SWC connection. If you're interested in watching trains, get off the SWC at Fullerton and connect with one of the San Diego trains there....great spot.
