1) In FY 2001, which Amtrak services showed a profit per passenger? Which service had the greatest revenues yet posted a loss?

2) Where is Amtrak's business car stored? What is its number? What is its history in brief?

3) Starting from Alton, IL, what is the most Amtrak rail-only mileage you could accrue criss-crossing the USA in any manner before returning back to Alton, without ever backtracking or traveling the same route twice?

4) What was the first Amtrak train ever cancelled? What was the most recent?

5) True or False: Amtrak Superliner equipment has been pulled by steam. If true, name an instance.

6) The General Railway Signal Company plant is closest to which Amtrak Station?

7) Name the baseball superstar who was raised near the Martinez, CA Amtrak Station. What was his nickname?

8)How many stations on the route of the Chief contain the letter "L"?

9) Name three fluids found on a Genesis locomotive.

10) True or False: There is an Amtrak station in which it is possible to both wait for a train and rent a room and spend the night. If true, which station?

1)The Heartland Flyer is one I know of

6)The Company is in Rochester, so The Rochester Railway Station is the closest.

10) True, the old Harvey House, La Posada, at Winslow Arizona? True it really isn't the Amtrak station, but I've stayed there and most passengers wait for the train by the old Harvey house than at the small station. And several people believe the Harvey House is the train station!

Partial Scores To Amtrivia Quiz #5 After 3 days on the board:

#1) UncleBuck44 is correct. It is the Heartland Flyer. What other single service turned a profit over expenses in FY 2001?

#2) EspeeFoamer: Correct. But where is car 10,000 stored?

#5) Sorry JONATHAN! Hunches don't count. Have Superliners been pulled by steam> If yes, show a photo. Name an occurence!

#6) Uncle Buck 44 is correct. The Rochester, NY Amtrak Station is just minutes away from the plant.

#7) MPalmer: Yes, it's Joe Dimaggio. He was also know as the Yankee Clipper.

#80 MPalmer. The answer is 17. Right you are. Does it seem to anyone else that there are a lot of Chief stops with the letter "L"? Who the L cares, right? It's a great train any way you spell it.

#9 MPalmer: The three fluids you named are correct. Just for trivia's sake, are there any more?

#10) MPalmer. Correct. Runner Up: SW Chief. I liked the way SWN Chief described goings on at the old Harvey House. I'll let the forum decide if your answer counts. Like you said, it's unofficial.

The remaining questions remain unanswered. Try using Miletrak to answer #3. There aren't many mileage options from Alton, IL, given the guidelines.

9. Diesel fuel, lube oil, water, um, uh... probably some railkill blood on all of them by now... can't forget coffee spills in the cab, not to mention the contents of the retention tank and the head... What made you ask this question again? Probably some sweat somewhere... Maybe some bird presents on the roof, that was once a fluid... I'll stop typing right now.
