Just curious: Is there a chance that the CZ could continue even if Amtrak is shut down? Doesn't the state of California pay costs for its operation? Not sure, but would like to know.

Hi!

The CZ is not state-supported, at least the cost of operation is not, though the State has renovated facilities and is paying/ has paid for capacity enhancements bewtween Sacracmento and San Jose.

I am not a betting man, but if I was, I would not bet that Dubya gets his way on this. An Amtrak bankruptcy would have far-reaching effects in areas other than transportation.

Cheers,

Rob
