Having just made the Empire Builder trip, I am rethinking my trip to Seattle/Victoria/Vancouver/ Alaska next May/June. What I am rethinking is: Should I consider stopping to see Glacier Park? Since I like better restaurant choices, I was thinking Whitefish would be the best place for me to stay in this area. But could I stay in Whitefish and still get around on that little bus to Glacier Park that you were all taking about? (Because I absolutely, as always do not want to rent and drive any cars.) Does anyone know what that bus is called? Also, is Glacier Park readily visit-able in early June, or is it still too snowy, with many attractions not yet open? Also, if you think Whitefish is good to stay in, does anyone have any hotel/motel recs convenient to the station or sights that would be nice, safe, comfortable, but not too expensive? Thanks again for your tips!

The Glacier Park buses are called 'Jammers' and while I don't believe they go all the way to Whitefish, they do serve the Glacier Park Lodge at the East Glacier station, the Issak Walton Inn at Essex, and the Belton Chalet (or something Chalet) Inn across US 2 from the train station at Belton.

JUST INSERTED......If I were to revisit this area I think I'd want to take a longer look at Belton (West Glacier station in some Amtrak references). It is an actual town (as opposed to Essex) and might have three or four dining options.

Early June may be a little too early weather-wise but perhaps someone more familiar with the area could clarify there. Whitefish does have some motor hotel type places on the outskirts but I would recommend something within walking distance of the train since you don't want to rent a car......specifically I would suggest the Issak Walton Inn BUT your dining options are going to be 'limited'.......like hotel restaurant only.

yes, june is a little early, will probably still see snow in some parts, but still worth a stop.
