Just a few notes from a trip on the Silver Meteor from Florence SC - Washington DC on August 24. The train was two hours late arriving in Florence (Midnight vs 10 p.m). We had a viewliner roomette. We walked down to the cars, which remained closed. The platform crew had to board the dorm lounge to wake up the attendant. In the meantime, the platform crew tried to open the sleeper from the platform. At this point I expected that the beds would not be made, but was surprised to see that everything was ready. The ride was fine - not as bumpy as previous trips on this route. One of the benefits when 98 is late is that we can enjoy breakfast in the dining car, which we were able to do since we were 3 hours late by morning. The diner was an oldie but goody - round porthole window in the door and an old manual latch. Other than the lateness of the train, the cars were clean and service was good.

Did you happen to notice how many Viewliner sleeping cars this train was equipped with? I assume there was the typical Hertiage Dorm Car for the crew.

There were three Viewliners and a heritage dorm-lounge in the consist. We were also pulling an Express Trak boxcar, unusual for this run.
