while researching the canadian's timetable, i see that during the wintertime, most of the rockies are traversed when it is dark outside. sad.

i also see in the summer it isnt too much better. why does via rail schedule evening departures and morning arrivals into vancouver? at least amtrak fits its schedule to match the scenery.

Because of this, ill probably just stick with the california zephyr this year.

Good plan.....get the Zephyr now.....just in case next time you don't have the Zephyr to choose.

Take the Canadian in June with maximum daylight eastbound. Also there is the Rocky Mountaineer
you could take all the way Vancouver to Calgary
for an all daylight trip via the CP Route.
