I've read a lot recently that Coach passengers need to check in to get seat assignments (and for i.d check) at LAX for long distance train departures...generally, when is the earliest one can do that? I'm especially interested in train #4 from LAX. I'll be taking that one over to CHI and I would be getting to the station from LAX at around 4:30pm. Certainly I'd want to try to get a decent seat....do they just randomly assign the coach seats or is there a way that you can request a window or an aisle seat? Of course i'm going on the assumption that the train would be full, so I just wanted to see if anyone has the scoop.

Thanks!
