Just wanted to put in my two cents about what I like about the Surfliner. Santa Barbara, if your in reasonably good health you can walk to alot in that beautiful city. San Diego, the depot is right downtown where you can catch the trolley to just about anywhere you would want to go.

If you don't feel like walking or are not able to Santa Barbara also has the 25 cent electric trolleys that will get you to most of the tourist sites in town (exceptions being the Mission, Rose Garden and Museum of Natural History). Those can be reached by regular City bus if you plan ahead. Or, take the trolley to the top of State Street and have a leisurely downhill walk back to the station and/or wharf.
