I'd like to try and see this train pass by if possible and have been having trouble confirming what dates the train will run.

I know some runs were cancelled but I thought there were still some planned for December.

Any information would be helpful. Might be hard to see #4 as it will be dark in my area (Fullerton closest station) and I'll have to be up bright and early for #3, but to see this special train might just be worth it.

As best as we can tell, GL service on 3/4 is like the Southern Pacific-Rock Island train "The Golden Rocket": STILLBORN.

GL website no longer mentions either 3/4 service or Florida service

That's really too bad [Frown]

The December 2007 Railfan & Railroad lists the following schedule:

Cal Zephyr:
November 2-23

Southwest Chief:
December 1-13

Silver Meteor:
December 18-January 2

But I wasn't sure if these were accurate/up to date or not.

They aint, Mr. Chief, They aint

In about two hours from this posting, it will be a "party's over". I would presume there will be a "messenger move" (a GL representative aboard for security) with the equipment back to Denver on #6(20); the staff will be on "red eye' flights home as early as tonight.

Grand Luxe can start "licking their wounds" over this fiasco, and MMQB - Monday Morning Quarterback - 'what went wrong"?

Remember, monthly magazines have a 6 week or so editorial date cut-off.

Yep, that's why I couldn't understand what has been previously posted here in other topics and then what the magazine posted. It really made me wonder after the magazine mentioned some runs were cancelled but the listed ones were still a go.

Too bad, as in my mind I imagined the trainset sort of looking like a late day Super Chief/El Cap, with "Hi-Level" Superliners up front and single level cars on the rear.

My dad and I were contemplating a trip on this train but boarding at Fullerton and detraining at Albuquerque. From what my dad said Grandluxe wasn't all that accommodating about mid trip stops and pick ups. I'm just thinking in my head but perhaps this was because not too many full route trips were booked they didn't want to start allowing that many mid route stops. Albuquerque is ok, but imagine Williams Junction and the many other smaller platforms along the route...triple stops [Eek!] Amtrak likely discouraged mid route stops from the beginning.
