Hello! I enjoy reading the messages here on the Amtrak RAILforum. The people here seem friendly and helpful.

I'm a lady in the Seattle area. I am going on a round trip from Seattle to Emeryville, CA, on the Coast Starlight. Departing Seattle on May 28. And departing Emeryville on June 1.

I was wondering if anyone else who reads this forum might be on the Coast Starlight at the same time that I will be on the train.

If so, I thought perhaps we could have a (perhaps brief but pleasant?) friendly conversation while riding the train.

Also, if anyone has any hints/tips about the Emeryville or Berkeley, CA area - especially about how safe it is for a woman traveling alone - I would appreciate any helpful info you might have.

Looking forward to your replies. Thanks! :-)

I'll miss you by 9 days. I'll be on #14 on June 10th from Los Angeles to Seattle (to try out the newly relaunched train).

I can't tell you much about Berkeley, but the Emeryville station has a few hotels across the tracks within walking distance. The Woodfin Suites is just across the pedestrian bridge (that goes across the tracks) and you can clearly see it from the platform. There is also a big farmer's market type of thing with lots and lots of food choices from a big food court in the building just on the other side of the pedestrian bridge. There is a good bookstore there (I think it's Barnes and Noble), and just to the right of that is the food court/farmer's market (inside the doors---not outside).
