I think I have read this information before. Good memory, but very short.
What time does Amtrak purge all the cancelled reservations from their copmputer, I think someone said 3:00AM?
I want to travel from CLE to MSP on Saturday, June 28th, but the leg from CLE to CHI is sold out.
I do have a reservation from CHI to MSP though.
I DO NOT want to fly or take the Gray Dog.
Thanks for any help.

It starts after 12 midnight PACIFIC time (3AM Eastern time). I've always had good luck getting a reservation on a sold-out train when checking around 12:30AM Pacific time.

Concur; 3AM ET was "what I have learned from inside".

Like Mr. Smith, I too have had success with "waking up early' (staying up late for some around here) and securing space on "sold out' trains. Most specifically, I think back to an Aug 2003 trip on #59 CHI to MEM, for which I had one week's notice to make. I "just kept trying" maybe about 5AMCT and darned if a Roomette (one of my preferred Lower Levels no less) "miraculously" became available.

Keep trying!!

CHI-MSP is currently bustitution due to flooding. Hopefully it will be restored to train by the 28th.

Oops, after posting this I see on another thread that the Amtrak website expects the EB to CHI to be restored tomorrow 6/20!

TwinStar - good to hear from you, it has been a while. I was wondering if all was well. Between tornados, floods, etc. you are having an interesting spring.

No floods or tornados in the immediate neighborhood, Vicki. But the Empire Builder has been waiting here all day while it doesn't go to Chicago. Too bad they don't let me use it for a place to hang out for the day.

I have been lurking mostly. When the conversation drifts away from bagpipes and ponies I just feel lost.

Well, I hope you read my friend Sue's report of her CS trip. She threw in a bagpipe reference. And she wrote a great report. My protege!
