Apparent suicide. Found a gun in his room. Shows violence can happen anywhere.

Shoot (no pun intended), the train was only an hour and a half late into Oakland.

While shooting oneself is a violent act, I think this is more an indication that anything can happen when you're dealing with the public-at-large, rather than a sign that Amtrak trains are the scene of increasing violence.

But then again, I read somewhere here that recently there was a stabbing aboard the Coast Starlight.

Yup...attempted murder near Klamath Falls on #11 (Coast Starlight). Suspect was eventually captured after he fled into the forest.

In such tight quarters, it's fortunate that the bullet didn't plow right through the suicidee, go straight through the wall, and strike a passenger in the next room.

Did you read the article? It says the cause of death was a single gunshot wound to the head that appeared to be self-inflicted. A note was found.
