But as one vote, he was swimming against the current so his influence was minor. As president, he would have power of the veto, which he threatened to use against any Amtrak bill. Ii might add that McCain was the one who introduced the Bush Amtrak "reform" plan in the Senate, but the bill died a mercifully quick death when nobody would join him in supporting it. It is an excellent example of how out of touch McCain has been in regards to Amtrak. [/QB][/QUOTE]
