Recently various people asked about taking the Chaleur train to the Gaspe, and I warned that the service can be unreliable. For much of last summer the Chaleur was discontinued due to a washed out bridge. Now again the Chaleur has been short-turned at New Carlisle due to another washout of the line east of that point. According to local press reports it is hoped to have the line restored by the 20th of November.

I am still trying to prove to my wife that you can see Perce Rock from a train (on a clear day) and get to Gaspe. In about two weeks we are scheduled to make our fourth attempt this year to do so. Given the speed at which track repairs are made in that part of the world (one very short bridge was supposed to be rebuilt in two weeks, but took seven!)we may be making our fifth attempt near Christmas.

According to local press reports, it would now appear that track repairs will not be completed until sometime in December.
