. . . is here:

http://travel.latimes.com/articles/sns-trvrail3-wk3-mar22

The piece appeared in today's LA Times but was written for Newsday.

The different thing about it is the writer is a journalist sleeping sitting up all night in COACH, not in a sleeping car. And she still had a good time with her family.

Surprise this was not circulated to the Trib as well, Mr. Kisor.

Oh well, I guess if someone had a 357 Magnum to my head, I'd try it out. Failing that, I'll be on the other side of the Diner.

No dough? just won't go.

GBN, the Tribune Company sold Newsday some time ago . . . I'm not sure how the LA Times picked up the story. Maybe Newsday is part of a news syndicate that feeds the LAT. Dunno. I've been retired for almost two years now and the news industry has completely changed.

Um . . . Do you insist on booking a sleeper room even for a short day run on a LD train? Or do you simply not take short day trips?

Likely yes, Mr. Kisor.

Segments such as LAX-EMY, CHI-MSP, or CHI-KCY I would book a room, however, for CHI-MDT that I almost did and would have done if adverse weather last December (my NRHS Chapter holds their Holiday Dinner at a trackside restaurant there), I think I would have 'tucked that out" aboard #3.

Finally, time for 'road trip"; until next Sunday, my "chattin'" here will be limited to the extent the hotels at which I will be staying have computers available for their guests to use. I think it is known that I am of the "what's a laptop" school and am at a loss to understand why all this "fruckus" regarding whether or not Amtrak offers 110VAC outlets at each seat.

I believe the LA Times is owned by the Tribune Company. It is certainly a shadow of the paper that I grew up with as are many print newspapers. All of the Chandlers are turning in their graves.

I left home with out my Sunday LA Times yesterday so didn't see this article. Thanks for posting it, Henry.

Frank, currently in sunny Culver City next to the 405.
