Legistatures in CT and MA have been talking for years to expand Amtrak service from Springfield MA-Hartford CT linking to New Haven. For years they have been talking and spending on consultants. In this article http://nhregister.com/articles/2009/03/28/news/a3-ctamtrak.txt they now want Amtrak to expand their service. Don't count on it. The success of the Shore Line east was done through a partnership with the MTA, the high gas prices and the never ending road construction made it a success. The benefit of the Shore Stations are that those stations are new and have ample parking due to large tracts of land in those towns. The Northern route stations where built in the 19th century and are centered in downtowns with no parking. I think it would be smarter to expand the Metro North trains up to Hartford. I don't think there is a cost and time benifit of Amtrak to get people out of their cars.
