I stumbled across this Senate committee hearing on C-SPAN. The topic was high speed rail. You can see it here, it runs about 47 minutes. Senate HSR Hearing Video

Some central points of discussion:
1. We need a national rail plan.
2. We need a modern national network.
3. Connections between trains and other modes need to be seamless.
4. Reliability is essential.
5. The time is right. It's been studied to death. It is time to start doing it.

We've been saying these things for many years. Finally, people from both political parties, who are actually in a postilion to do something are also saying it!

I notice Mr. Kisor has posted the text of Mr. Boardman's statement in another thread.
