Funny, I just popped in after a long time and saw your message. I've been dealing with chronic pain that has been dominating my life. Three doctors and thousands of dollars worth of tests were unable to yield even a diagnosis, and various types of therapists (thousands more dollars) have been unable to provide any relief. And being now among those "uninsured Americans" I don't have any more money to waste on further guesswork. A majority of our Congresscritters say we can't have public health care because it is evil socialism, so I wait patiently for the capitalist free market to present me with a workable solution. I don't see one on the horizon, though.

I haven't been able to work for over a year, and train travel is out of the question right now. Thus my interests have drifted elsewhere, for now, anyway.

I appreciate your concern. Thanks for noticing.

I recently updated my website with information about plans for the Monterey Branch Line. No Del Monte revival in the foreseeable future, unfortunately.

I was very sorry to read of your continuing medical problems. I wholly sympathise as one who also has a few similar difficulties. I only hope you do get some easing of your pain soon. Very best wishes from across the pond.

In the past, I have had some luck managing pain with acupuncture, and it is not very expensive.

I wish you well.

Re-reading your post, you have a minor mistake. A majority of our congress critters are hell-bent to pass that convoluted piece of garbage right NOW!. We get to pay for it right now, but you will not see any benefit from it until 2014. Can you wait that long, Mr. Toy?

Yea, I know... It royally sucks! You could do what the illegals do. Show up at the ER and wait for 8-10 hours to be seen.

Mr. Toy,

We have missed you and your experiences so thoughtfully written. I join others here who wish you some success in resolving your health problems.

However, had our health care plan been in existence your results to date would not have changed. It may not have resulted in as much of your money being spent but the plan would not create any medical solutions. In fact many doctors may leave their profession if the current plan is enacted. And those who do research for medicines may have an incentive to look for other avenues to utilize their talents.

I wish you the best for your personal health.

Mr. Toy, I too join those wishing you a speedy recovery and hope you find that cure very soon.

As an east coaster, I also enjoy your posts and insights into California rail. My wife and I certainly enjoyed the Monterrey and Salinas area on our recent visit. Maybe we can meet up one day in the lounge car of the Coast Daylight!

I, too, had noticed your absence, Mr Toy, and thought of you on several occasions. Has it really been a year? I imagine that it seems longer to you. Best wishes for a brighter new year!

Let us too, add our hopes for Mr. Toy's recovery and or moderation in pain. He was the first to respond to this tyro's requesst about travel on Amtrak a-w-a-y back in 2004 when we began to plan our first cross country trip. His conservative response on what to expect made our trip very enjoyable. His suggestion on packing has been a life saver on each of our almost annual cross country trips. Thank you Mr. Toy, you will be in our prayers.
Best regards,
Rodger

Mr. Toy I am so sorry to hear of your pain. A non diagnosis is most frustrating. I had a similar problem until I found a terrific rhumatologist who finally got to the bottom of things. I wish the same for you. Please keep us posted. You notice how many people are concerned about you.

Thank you for all of your kind messages. Something will work out, I expect. Though my interest in discussing trains has gone somewhat dormant since other issues have dominated my life, my interest in seeing Amtrak succeed still remains. I'll try to check in a little more often.
