Will we still be able to make new posts here? How will all the people who post here know where to go now that the link is moved?

I've got this page bookmarked so I didn't initially know what you were talking about. Starting from the TrainWeb home page I see that you get a choice of the Silver Rails forum and then the legacy forum (ie here).

As far as I know, the new user sign-up still isn't working so this forum was going to die a slow death anyway. I guess the link changes are to encourage people to use the Silver Rails forum instead of this one.

Could somebody post a link to that "Silver Rails" forum? I'm not sure I'm even registered there or ever use it; guess I'll start now. Thanks.

I'll try and find out what's going on, I didn't know about the "link" issue until you brought it up sojourner. I'll post whatever I find out.

I too await more info. Hate the new on-line world that thinks content change is always necessary, to go along with the hardware toys. By the way, WHO in the world at Apple thought naming their new toy like a feminine product was a good idea?

Where are you guys seeing this new info? I've gone to railforum dot com and trainweb dot com. It all looks the same to me?

PS: I agree about the iPad. Why did they name it THAT???

I have just received this from Steve Grande who has also posted it on the Forums link.

Note: The old TrainWeb Forums are NOT going away. We have NO PLANS of ever shutting them down. We have been experiencing some problems with the old forums where new visitors have not been able to register and some old loyal members have gotten shut out.

The old TrainWeb Forums have one technical administrator and one moderator. The new SilverRails.net Forums have multiple technical administrators and are configured to allow multiple moderators. Over time, we would like to invite some of our experienced and trusted members to volunteer to moderate some of the forums. The SilverRails.net social network for train enthusiasts invites your input and your participation in building our rail community. We wish to evolve and grow the new forums over time adding new sections that you suggest and inviting those who would like to volunteer to moderate to help build this community.

Thanks for your understanding and sorry for any confusion. Steve Grande

This is good news.......Thanks moderator....

It would be nice if the issues potential new visitors are having could be ironed out though!

Having been a Moderator elsewhere in cyberspace, I will tell those of you who consider it that it can be a rewarding work, but you will spend a fair bit of time ... because you will have to read every last post. You are the 1st arbiter of the hosts standards.

If you choose to ask or are asked to serve, do so with open eyes, please.

Smitty, I get to here via Trainweb.com. That page has a buch of info, including picture highlights of stories from the likes of Chris G, Carl M., etc. I click the forums heading, and it used to bring me to railformus.com, with a "see to enter the forum" icon. Now it gives you a choice, either silver rails forums or "legacy" forums - this one.

I agree that "iPad" is a terrible name for Apple's new device. And why in heaven's name did Barnes & Noble call their new electronic book reader the "Nook E-Book"? This suggests that certain marketing people have developed a fatal case of tin ear.

I don't find anything particularily objectionable about "iPad". It fits the iPhone, iPod, iMac sequence and seems to me to be a logical choice. Is "scratch pad" or "bed pad" offensive? I guess "pad" used for one's dwelling has been replaced by "crib".

In any case, I want one. Sooner rather than later. It will be great for travel and, with the optional keyboard/dock might just substitute for the aging PowerBook G4 I use now.

I tried to sign up for Silver Rails and it didn't work. It just becomes a never ending circle with the confirming e-mail never being sent.

Thanks RR4me.....now I see it. This Amtrak forum webpage is bookmarked in my browser, and I always get to it that way. I guess I didn't realize you could get here via TrainWeb's main page, and then click your way through.

Link for the SilverRails is http://www.silverrails.net then click on forums. It is very quiet there, a number of lookers but not much posting yet.
To Frank, or anyone else who is having trouble joining up at the SilverRails, please email them at admin@silverrails.net, you will get a reply.

I had to back my way into here by going to history which tracks what sites you visit.

I have exchanged email with Steve Grande today because I can no longer get in here with the book mark I have always used -(for front page of Train Web). I can access the main page but when I click onto the new Forums page and try to click on to the Legacy forum (which is this one) I get a no go screen saying that either I am not connected to the internet or the webpage is experiencing trouble.

Have never had trouble in the past ---

Silver Rails took forever to sign up for and there is no activity there.

Hope they fix the access to this forum.

Dee

p.s - my access problems started when they put the new forums entry page up.

Dee, try this direct link to this forum -
http://www.railforum.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi/forum/11.html

That is how I have always entered and it still seems to work fine.
