The latest word......as yet unconfirmed...... is that North Carolina's third frequency between Raleigh and Charlotte, a noonish departure from each endpoint.... will launch on June 4th. An official announcement from NCDOT is expected to be forthcoming on Wednesday of this week.

Earlier, this new train was projected to begin May 10. However, there have been some delays in completing some signal work NS wanted first.

I was beginning to worry about them making good on a May startup as nothing official had been said yet. We'll see if we hear something official in the next couple of days.

Don't think so...... still a work in progress.

Asheville? I'm about to give up on that one.

What about the annual junket from the NC train association; do they still do that? Could one take it one way and get back by train?

Sometimes there is an same day excursion to Asheville from Salisbury and back offered by the North Carolina Transportation Museum in Spencer. The last one was in November 2009. No word on whether another will be offered in 2010 yet.
