I just booked the trip I alluded to in another thread - the challenging part. I wanted to go AGR from San Antonio to Portland OR via TX Eagle, CA Zephyr & Coast Starlight like I did last year. 5 days & 4 nights 2 zone trip. I could also go via the Sunset Ltd and Coast Starlight but since I'm coming back that way I preferred the other. It was all booked out of course on any days I could travel; oddly the southern route had availability on all days. I just kept checking and checking the Amtrak website and suddenly a few minutes ago it showed availability on the desired route. I called and even though it was a day that #1 also ran she gave me no problem whatsoever. This tells me that the website is updated much more than once a week or even nightly as we have sometimes supposed. I depart on 8/7 and will arrive back on #2 9/2 with 8 days and 5 nights of train riding in between.
