Two teens were killed and one injured in SoCal. A train hit them while they were sleeping on the tracks the news is reporting. My thoughts go out to the families of these young people but couldn't they have found another place to sleep?

Can't think of any reason I would want to sleep on a railroad track...... might request to have my ashes scattered on one after I'm finished with my body but I certainly wouldn't lie down on one any sooner than that.....
It's horrible, not only for the families of course, but these types of incidents stick in your head FOREVER as emergency workers, coroners, and the railroad crew.

Isn't Laguna Niguel the location of the annual "Moon Amtrak" event? Rowdy bunch down there.
There must have been alcohol or drugs involved. How else could three adults "fall asleep" on a railroad track?

This is a case where the ambiguity of the English language ends up making fools of the English majors. The wire report, which cannot be reprinted verbatim and must have subtle changes made to it, more than likely said "unconscious" or "incapacitated," i. e. a drunken/drugged stupor, and someone changed it to "asleep." Positioning the rails (assuming standard gauge) under the knees and neck may aid in sleeping posture. Yeah, pick a different place to hang out, people. Alcohol is a drug. It's too bad it is socially acceptable to abuse it.
