Don't make the mistake of thinking this is a "done deal," or "Sure thing." If anything, Florida rail supporters ought to realize that this will be a close run thing, and they must get out the support in order to push this into fruition. Coming from Wisconsin, believe me when I type that the long knives are out against rail, especially in the current crop of Republican politicians.

Unfortunately:

  • After Congressional approval of the FFGA, Florida's Governor Rick Scott will make the final decision to move forward with SunRail.
Somehow, I don't think that train hating Gov Scott, is going to blithely sign-on, as he surely holds that his anti-train positions have carried him into and will keep him in office for his second and final term that would expire during 2019.

That's why I posted the link without comment; King Scott obviously has the last word on whether it comes to fruition or not.

The latest rumor/opinion:

http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/news_politics/2011/05/dockery-my-guess-is-that-scott-will-sign-off-on-sunrail.html

Looks like there is a Scott/CSX connection of sorts.
