On my recent Coast Starlight trip we had a Private Car, the Cyrus Holliday on the rear.
Today, on a sidetrip to San Diego, I noticed that this PV had been forwarded on to San Diego either late last night or early this morning.
My question, since the Surfliners seem to all run in push/pull mode pushing back to Los Angeles, HOW are private cars handled FROM San Diego back to LAX?

They are tack on behind the engine for the trip to LA.

Yup...I've done it a few times with the Silver Lariat and we had the nose of the engine right up against the vestibule.

That's bizarre but I suppose it's the least costly solution.
Thanks for the replies.

It is bizarre..I thought the same thing, but that's how they do it. I guess it's easier than uncoupling the locomotive, moving it to another track, bringing in the PV, and moving the locomotive back again. I guess it just comes down to time, labor, and track space.
