My local PBS station, last night, had a presentation entitled, "Trains Around North America". I wonder if this is just one in a series..I think I recognized the host from a previous episode. The presentation was really interestng and well done. The trains/railroads depicted are as follows:

"Lake Superior RR Museum", Duluth, MN. A look at the North Shore Scenic RR. A beautifully restored 1950 Great Northern dining car.

"Royal Canadian Pacific RR". Calgary, AB. Looks like a fantastic excursion train, but the cost figure, I think, is beyond the reach of most people.

*Wilmington & Western Railroad", Wilmington, DE. Even had a woman dressed up as Phoebe Snow.

*Grand Canyon Railway", Williams, AZ.

*Saratoga & North Creek Railway", Saratoga and North Creek, NY. Has some nice dome cars.

"Texas State Railroad". Rusk, Texas (SE of Dallas). Interesting trek through tall, piny woods and a barbeque outing.

"Rio Grande Scenic RR". La Veta CO and Alamosa, CO. Very scenic with a stop at La Veta pass and country music. Has some old Illinois Central cars.

"Durbin & Green Brier Valley RR", Elkins, WV & Durbin, WV. Features the "Durbin Rocket"..an old 1910 steam engine. Also some nice old cabooses.

"Great Smoky Mountains Railroad". Bryson City, NC. Historic railroad built on very rugged terrain. A visit to the Smoky Mountain Train Museum (Bryson City) which has an outstanding layout of Lionel trains.

"White Pass and Yukon RR", Skagway, Alaska.

"Cafe Lafayette Dinner Train", North Woodstock, NH. The gourmet meals looked fantastic.

**********
I hope this episode of "Trains Around North America" comes to your local PBS station. It is a beautifully done presentation and really worthwhile.
