With the ship wallowing in the gulf there would have been time to deadhead them in from Louisville, New Orleans and wherever Pullman had them stacked up. After Christmas holidays in the 60's I saw two 15/18 car Sugar Bowl specials go through Flomaton, AL on its way to the Crescent city.
