How this topic was titled would have suggested some advocacy group had a "vision" of restoring the State of Maine and/or the East Wind.
For our younger and/or "Lefties" around here, both were NY-Portland trains that bypassed Boston through Worcester and Lowell, MA.

The need to bypass Boston if you were taking a train from a point south therof to a point north therof was supposed to have been ended by the rail portion of the "Big Dig". However, the rail part got dropped to save money after the horrendous cost overruns started to appear.

Gil, I titled it that just to see if you were paying attention (you were!). Actually, the appellation, "State of Maine," is used quite a bit down east besides the name of the former overnight express train you cited. John Irving, in his novel, "The Hotel New Hampshire," gives us a bear by the name of "State O' Maine," not to mention those Bangor and Aroostook reefers from our day with that plastered all over them.
