For those that like a caption before blindly clicking on a link, this was the news that a senator giving a press conference on commuter rail safety was almost taken out by a passing train.

This link has slightly less "in your face" advertising than the NBC link.

Here is same appearing at an Irish news site without any ads but with some pointed commentary:

Irish Independent

This video has definitely gone viral.

Yep, that darn AMTRAK! Gee, they should have known that some mindless politician was going to be standing halfway into the right-of-way, BEYOND the yellow safety stripes ahead of time, and should have either canceled that train that day or put it on a different track, shouldn't they have?

Politician sensors should be required on every Amtrak platform. We can offset the cost of installing these by eliminating free salad dressing packets in the diners.

I often wonder how many politicians outside of the NEC and California, even know what AMTRAK is, or know whether or not their state even has AMTRAK service, especially those from states like South Dakota and Wyoming, where there is little or no AMTRAK service.

I guess the yellow platform lines and non-slip yellow step areas didn't mean anything to these guys. Where were the station/ramp Metro North ppl? Generally they are around, when the trains come in or by at bigger stations, plus there are the security cams, no? And when the VIPs, like Blumenthal are giving "trackside presentations" there REALLY should have been some Metro North personnel up there with him to warn him of his dangerous positioning. Also wondering why the engineer didn't horn-blast him? Might have been a "Quiet zone?" Even then, there should have been a toot, at least.

Maybe the ever vigilant Amtrak Security Team was busy watching for rail fans with cameras.

Mr. RR Bob, Milford CT is only a Metro North station.

One must remember the depth of ignorance in many, if not most, of these politicians. One of my all time favorites is the California politician, can't remember who, but on the nationao stange, and was not Polosi; "She was shocked, simply shoocked that passenger trains and freight trains ran in both directions on the same track" Well, duhh woman. This is the norm for the majority of the railroad lines that carry passenger trains on this planet.

Thanks GBN for the correction. This district is 3K miles east of my home zone and I'm not too conversant with "who stops where." --
