As a result of another derailment near Gogama on the Ruel Sub. in northern Ontario (the third in as many weeks) the Canadian has been cancelled between Toronto and Winnipeg - in both directions of course - since March 7th. The train is still running between Vancouver and Winnipeg but passengers are on their own to get between Winnipeg and Toronto.

Although a temporary bypass is in effect allowing freight to get through and the permanent line is expected to re-open early next week, VIA has been extending the period of cancellation. Today the cancellation has been extended another week. The first #2 from Winnipeg will be on Sunday March 29th and the first #1 from Toronto will be Sat. March 28th.
