I've noticed on another thread that apparently the Iowa Pacific Hoosier State has been bustituted out for about a week...... equipment problems?

Looking around the web, David, it does seem to be equipment problems. Windows installed backward causing them to fall out. Oil pipe drains needing replacement. Then the follow up inspections. Hopefully, back to normal soon.

Related article and video from Lafayette Journal Courier courtesy Indianapolis Star:

All of this coming at a time that I was tinkering with a possible joyride to Lafayette (Indy would be just too far). I can only think of my 2013 "almost" joyride on Pullman Rail, which I detailed at our PRJ topic.

I'm contemplating a Lafayette joyride myself GBN....... need something to make up for having lost my 4501 excursion to precautionary cancellation.

For you GBN it's a matter of a short commute into CUS and if the Hoosier State is a no go then you are a no go as well.

Unfortunately, it's not quite that simple anymore. While Amtrak would likely refund both Coach and Business Class supplement, hotels - at least the major brand varietal at which I stay - now want 24 hour notice for a penalty free CX.

Just too many shades of my "one click away" escapade with PRJ.

I was fortunate that word of the 4501 cancellations out of Atlanta reached me with about 20 minutes to spare before the cancellation deadline for my Atlanta area hotel.

David, sorry you missed 4501. I am sure she will run again. Check my post on it for a couple photos.

Thanks Palmland -

I did get to ride a 4501 excursion last fall on that former CoG line from Chattanooga south to Summerville, GA. The difference is that there the train drifts along at 15mph all day. I was hoping to experience some sustained 45mph running.
