Here is the most recent Amtrak Service Alert regarding Hurricane Matthew.
While at this time, Matthew isn't a threat to the East Coast North of Hatteras, same can hardly be said of FL, GA, and SC Coastal areas.
Mr. Palmland, I'd guess Tallulah has decided she wants to stay right where she is and as such, so will you and Miss Mary.
Ocala Mike, I trust you are inland enough to just have a heavy rainstorm.
As for myself, I literally was "that close" to calling off a one week auto trip that will take me to Detroit, Cleveland, Fredericksburg, and Greenwich; now I'm leaving on it today. I'm sure for the Fredericksburg-Greenwich leg. I'll wish I were aboard Amtrak. The rest of it; Amtrak?, a bit unreasonable and impractical.
I've been in a hurricane (Cat 3, Carol, Aug 31, 1954) on a 36' boat moored in Stonington (CT) Harbor. Unlike any experience I've had or would choose to have again.

No problem in central SC. Forecast for max 30mph wind and a couple inches of rain. A summer thunderstorm is worse. Not so for the low country. Perhaps a foot of rain and cat 1 or 2 hurricane force wind. But, biggest problem - a storm surge expected at 6-9 feet.
I-26 out of Charleston heading was bumper to bumper. According to the governor, not hotel space left, even in 'upstate' -Greenville, Spartanburg. Try Charlotte.
Well be content watching the baseball playoffs (Go Cubs!)- assuming Duke Power doesn't let us down. As GBN knows lots of pine trees around - that snap easily.

Update 830P: pavement was dry when we went out to Dinner. Tomorrow, clear weather and a bit "crispy"; great day to go wining.

Yes, we pretty much dodged a bullet. Only about an inch of rain and maybe gusts to 40 mph or so. Spent most of Sun. morning picking up downed limbs and branches and putting on the burn pile.
Glad I'm 75 miles or so from the Atlantic and 70' above sea level.
