I'm planning a rail trip to Saratoga next month, but I'm fearful that conditions at NYP might affect connections from the Meteor to Empire Service trains a great deal. Thoughts on whether I should maybe drive up instead? I hate chaos!!!

Gray Lady's "take" after one morning commute:
  • Two months of train disruptions began today on New Jersey Transit, Long Island Rail Road and Amtrak, with track repairs underway at Pennsylvania Station. See our commuting guide.

    • There were brief delays, but no major problems this morning getting into Manhattan.

    • Your commute home might have to be different from your commute in.

There were crowds, but bearable commutes.

Regular commuters confronted thicker crowds than usual on some routes this morning.

“Confusion? No,” Whit Waterbury texted us from a New Jersey Transit Morris and Essex line train. “Being herded like cattle & squished in? You bet".
Mike, it appears that the Ethan Allen still uses Penn and there is adaquate time for the 98-NYP-291 connection to be considered "safe". But in view of that you'll need an auto to play the ponies while up there, might this be a year to try out Auto-Train? You could even do a "shunpike" toll-free routing up from Lorton to Sara, as there is no need to "X-Henry's Little Creek". It would take you all day and into the night, but "it's there". However, if you choose to "do the tolls", then I strongly suggest signing up for an EZ-Pass.

Coordinating with my racetrack buds in NY now. I can go up there without a car, because they may be my ersatz Uber drivers. Early planning stages - just got back from Utah, so not even sure if I'm going.
