Put this here as this appears to a far more active location.

Quoting from Progressive Railroading:
quote:
President Donald Trump yesterday announced his intent to nominate Ronald Batory to serve as administrator of the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA).

Batory has more than 45 years of rail industry experience and most recently served as president and chief operating officer of Conrail.

Looks like another appointment of someone with real experience in the area he is supposed to deal with.

The general consensus from those commenting is that this is a real professional railroader, not some political hack or buddy. One person said, "started as a breakman."

Mr. Batory certainly has the qualifications to be the FRA Administrator. That should be enough to have him sworn in on the pronto.

But it's politics, and who knows which Senator has a ready-to-go hack in the tradition of this "jack-of-all-trades, master of none" Chicago Pol, to be used as a bargaining chip with the course of "evolving isolation" endemic to the incumbent Administration.

Some may have seen this Trains announcement for Mr. Batory.

Certainly seems like the right man for the job.

Whoa. Trump appointed someone who actually knows something about the job he's getting !??! This makes two, counting Elaine Chao!

Jerome, I think this would belong in the free for all thread. Not everybody here would consider this even close to a correct statement, and that is being polite. Beyond that, I keep my political opinions to myself.

Railway Track & Signals reports that the appointment of Ronald Batory as FRA Director will be a "slam dunk" as Senate Committee approval was with a voice (Aye, Nay) and same is expected of the Floor.

Nice to see "something gets done in Washington" - even if for a relatively minor post with an unquestionably qualified designate.
