CEO Anderson has taken a lot of criticism recently for his neglect of Amtrak LD service. However, I have neve seen the Silver Service trains running with six coaches. That’s been the case the past two days for the Meteor and Star. And, the Star had had two AmCafe cars.

Good for Amtrak for maximizeing revenue during this heavy travel season.

GBN, it won’t be long before 3/4 are running in two sections and the Florida Special is back.

Mr. Palmland, when you say "3/4 running in two sections", I hope you aren't talking about a Chicago to Kansas City section and an Albuquerque to Los Angeles section (with a nasty bus ride in-between).

No Vincent, just wishful thinking. I was referring to the days when the Super Chief and El Capitan were combined but frequently ran as two sections during the holidays. First section was all Pullman and the second was the all coach section.

And of course the Florida Special was the winter season all Pullman train from NY to Florida on the PRR/RF&P/ACL route. But I think early Amtrak had a seasonal Florida train?

Actually, talking with ATSF fans, when the Hi-Level El Cap was full, they put low level coaches on the Super, OR created a 2d section of the Super, under her name, but coach. Santa Fe was protecting the brand name of the El Capitan.

Interesting, Mr.Pullman, as I always thought the Super Chief was the better known brand.

When I rode the Super Chief the last week of 1968, it was running with an all Pullman consist. The El Cap was operating as a second section behind us. The Santa Fe did it right to the end in 1971, as did the SCL.
