…The 19-page plan to be proposed by Democrats includes $329 billion for investment in transportation systems, including improving safety measures for bicyclists and pedestrians, and $105 billion for transit agencies and maintenance needs. The framework also includes $55 billion in railway investments for both the expansion of the country’s passenger rail network and improvement of Amtrak stations and services, $19.7 billion for the upkeep of harbors and ports, $86 billion for the expansion of broadband access and additional funds to address greenhouse gas pollution and increase climate resiliency..
Incidentally, the photo shows the Poughkeepsie Bridge, which was withdrawn from rail service after a fire during 1974. Today it is a State Park featuring a walk over the Hudson River.

I vote no - anti-NY bias in the Senate. Now, let's see what happens after the election.

I wonder how much of that $ 329 billion will go for bicycle and pedestrian safety? Is that something we need to think about, right now? I would rather see it go for a huge stimulus to enable start-ups for new toilet paper manufacturers.
As far as the govt's new 2 trillion stimulus package is concerned, I do hope it will help a lot of our fellow Americans make a go of it in the next few months. I think it is vital that our industry and commerce will be able to get back on its feet. Will we need another 2 trillion in a few months? I guess we shouldn't worry, the govt. will simply borrow the money and make an entry in the big digital dollar ledger in the sky. Is there an eventual danger of inflation? I don't want to pay $50 for a loaf of bread or a roll of toilet paper.

Richard, as I noted at an Open Discussion topic, I believe "the curve will be flattened" during June and the "all clear" sounded before "The Fourth".
I believe the economy will recover rapidly (hard as it may, try not to look too hard at your portfolio); I say this on the strength that here in my affluent community, my "mid six figure" neighbors with discretionary income are working - albeit WFH (how they deal with HS and College kids stuck at home is how they deal). The desire to spend is pent up (I've personally scrubbed three trips) and they will spend. True, there are service workers who are in dire straits, but they will be quickly recalled, and by Xmas, the economy will be within the scope of "normal".
Richard, your concerns regarding inflation are not lightly dismissed.

This is a typical "Motherhood and Apple Pie" bill that has everything but the kitchen sink thrown in it because it would look too bad to oppose. Meanwhile, its real purpose gets lost about 2/3 of the way through it. What does anything in that list printed from the New York Times have to do with the need at hand? I would say none of it.

******************* Well, I hope that we will be back to normal by July 4th or, at least, by the end of July. I'm still looking at the possibility of an Empire Builder trip in late July or August.
I don't understand why Amtrak has suspended showing train timetables/schedule for all trains, on their website. All you get is:
Can't they explain what a "reduced schedule" means for each train?
If your train isn't listed, is it still running on its normal route & schedule? Why not post the schedules with a drop down box showing which trains are abbreviated or cancelled. People still need to plan trips for after the virus "all clear" siren sounds.
