Here is a video of Mexican passenger equipment in service towards "the end"; evidently such was "imported" from the USA:

I took three rail trips down there "once upon a time" - '70, '73, '75. Today, I wouldn't be anywhere down there. It certainly appears the State Department agrees:

Save two tourist trains Los Mochis-Chihuahua and Guadalajara-Tequila, all other trains were discontiued during '87 when both the KCS and UP made investments in the "privatized" roads. The word was out; "Don't even THINK of a Mextrak".

Here's another video which unfortunately was posted without any caption:

One more captioned Veracruz 1975:

Anyone else have memories of rail travel "South of thr Border"?

Mr. Nicholson, the Los Mochis-Chihuaha train still survives and is known as the Chepe, a takeoff of the former railroad over which it operates - Chihuahua Pacific, which is now part of Ferromex.

When I rode it during '75, we "camped out" in the Suffragio, Sin. station for about five hours. A taxi driver trying to get a fare to Los Mochis, Sin. was saying "banditos". We declined and stayed in the manned station until the CHP showed up.

Uh, don't think you'd "exactly" see me in those parts today.
