I hope others share my relief that Joe is now "on the path" to the Nomination. This morning, Mike "got the message" and checked out, but not before endorsing Joe without, at the moment, any visible "strings". Liz is surely putting her exit strategy in place. Her endorsement, Bernie or Joe, will surely come at a price (Cabinet; whatever).

So to the VP; some will want a "groundbreaker" such as a Black woman. I'll bet the likes of Michelle or Oprah would make a darned good president - something that must be strongly factored considering Joe's age. But really, are either available? Kamala? California is safe Democrat country even if Yogi Bear was nominated.

So we look to the swing states. Which one is the "swingiest"? If it's Ohio, then Sherrod Brown. If Florida, Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, but I think she got in crossways with the party's elders last time around. So, assuming Joe can hold everywhere Hillary did, and he can get Pennsylvania with his own coattails, all he needs is Ohio will get him there.

Bernie may hang on to the Convention, but he hasn't a chance in the "smoke filled room" (OK, no smoke and women present). Still, he wants a "pound of flesh" - again Cabinet picks.

Now the unfortunate fallout from our divisiveness. Trump will have to be decisively defeated by 8 to 10 points in both the popular and in any of the swing states, lest we be looking at a "Gorebushoff doubled in spades" constitutional crisis. We, the longest standing Republic on the planet, do not need the likes of a "government in exile" and a forcible White House removal including "the Army vs. the Secret Service".

Michelle doesn't want it, I doubt Oprah does. Elizabeth Warren can't leave the Senate without the Republican Governor of Massachusetts putting a GOP member in her place. And the Democrats can't afford to lose one member while they have as real chance of taking the house.
I'm thinking Kamala Harris for VP.But Joe shouldn't measure the drapes yet. Michigan looms ahead, and if Bernie takes a state that cost Hillary the election, there's life in him yet.
But an Ohioan would put that state into play. So maybe Harris for Supreme Court. I can dream, can't I? So how about Stacy Abrams Attorney General and Andrew Yang Secretary of Commerce?

You have a good point, Mr. Nicholson. In addition to Liz leaving the Senate for a Cabinet seat, the same will apply to Sherrod Brown. I noted him as a VP to balance the ticket where Obama won but Hillary lost. Play with that interactive map starting with the 2016 Election. Flip PA (hopefully, Joe's coattails) and OH, hold everything Hillary won, and Joe will have the 270.

The VP is always a product of the "smoke filled room" (really, you think McCain wanted Palin? I don't think he even liked her as a person). There will be work to be done in there.

Final thought, does doing something "groundbreaking" - a Black woman VP - override the need for "ticket balance"?

Black voters especially women, will certainly come out in droves to vote the ticket. They are the reason Alabama has a Democrat senator.
And I don't think McCain had a serious discussion with Palin. I think he told his staff to find him a woman and assumed they vetted her.

First Mr. Nicholson, I think you are likely correct that the "smoke filled room" just dumped Sarah on Sen. McCain. But on that Sep 16 when the Financial Crisis hit Main Street, the Election was lost, so it really didn't matter much who was the VP candidate.

OK, Joe is 77 (I'm a year older, get clean bills from Dr. Brooks every six months, but I'm not running for President); and what counts is that he have someone "strong" who could be President if the need arise.

I think Kamala could fulfil that need. The Girl is tough - and I think she's smart. There would be no need to "lock her up and let her out only for the funeral of Generalissimo Patrice Lumamba in Darkest Africa who said on his deathbed how he loves America". She could be an effective president.

Furthermore on the point of your concern, Democrat Gov. Newsom will appoint same to fill her vacated Seat. Maybe, just maybe, a Black gal appointee, even if a "Cali", could hit the trail and cement Ohio for the Joe-Kam ticket. Noteworthy on that point was how the Cleveland NBC outlet during '16 sent a Black reporter to several predominantly Black precincts. All she could report was no report - they were standing in line during '08 and '12, but "the place is dead" tonight. So maybe two "California Girls" could do the trick.

Further, Barack and Michelle will be on the trail for a man they love as their friend. This as distinct from Hillary, who was simply the Democratic nominee. Consider how they only "really hit the trail" when the "powers that be" knew she was in trouble.

So to close, allow me to reiterate my earlier point - flip PA and OH, hold what Hillary won in '16, and Joe's got it.

Now that the Debate with audience that was to be held in Phoenix this Sunday has been moved to a TV studio in Washington, might "Amtrak Joe" become that again for the occasion? After all, he just might be coming from his Campaign HQ in Philadelphia or his home in Wilmington.

Maybe, maybe?

Perhaps, but he'd best be in a coach by himself. He can't be with regular passengers in this new normal.

I could be proved wrong, but I think the Democrats have shot themselves in the foot for this one. Surely they could have done better that the selection set before us. We are now left with two alternatives, one an outright communist and the other appearing to border on senility. Both are making completely irrational promises, and some couched in terms that appear to show a lack of understanding of how the Constitution makes the legislative process work. At this point the Republicans could put up Alfred E. Neuman and he would get my vote. When you turn off the sound and watch the action, I think Trump has done quite well. The visceral hatred the news media has for the man I find hard to comprehend. It seems that for many anything he does has to be wrong, we just have to figure out what.

Mr. Harris, I can agree that Alfred E. Newman would be a better President than the orangutan we have now.If you can't see what he has done wrong, try pulling your he'd out of the Fox bubble and look around.
For instance, he said yesterday that he always knew the coronavirus was a pandemic. If so why did he call it a hoax? Why did he say that anyone who wants a t EST can get one? Remember he disbanded the panvirus response team and rejected the testing kits offered by South Korea. Did he even know what a pandemic is?
Yes yes seems to do better now but he should have done these things weeks ago! He. Joe Biden may be a senile gaffe machine, but at least he can read a teleprompter without lies spilling out?

Sorry volks, but I think Joe is "painting himself into a corner" with his VP selection process. He should simply "be on the mum" (of course that's not Joe), until the Convention, whenever it will be, and the "smoke filled room" picks the VP.

While it may be politically expedient to have a woman VP candidate (especially since, for better or worse, we already know Trump's VP) and now with the growing sentiment for a Black running mate, Joe is closing too many avenues of flexibility before he need.

While I think Kamala would be a strong President who would stand up to Kim, Xi, Vlady, and any other "bad boys" on or to come on the scene, she will do nothing to "shore up the ticket"; California is in the bag for any Democrat. Same with Amy, but Minnesota is also in the bag. Now would Stacy (can hear -- John --- already "Loser Stacy"), but could she, or the lesser known Atlanta Mayor Bottoms, be enough to "flip" Georgia?

If the Election were in the bag, as the Trump campaign thinks it is, fine; make your social statement for something way overdue. But this Election is too close (it has to be won by ten points in any Battleground lest we have the biggest constitutional crisis in the history of our Republic) to be doing anything other than "keeping all your options open".
